It was a magical evening like no other at the Rosewood Hotel, Beijing when a galaxy of glamorous stars descended for what was called “an enchanting journey into the world of Chaumet”. The roll call of celebrities, decked in their finest, included American actress Kirsten Dunst, French actress Audrey Tautou, Chinese actress Gao Yuanyuan, Hong Kong actress Cherie Chung and Japanese-American model Jun Hasegawa, among a sea of glitterati.
For that one evening, the jeweller took over the mezzanine floor of the hotel where, within the confines of multiple rooms, the artisanship and workmanship that goes on behind the scenes at Chaumet were revealed to the attending VIPs; indeed, glittering diamonds from the company’s vast archives were showcased in China for the very first time.
The workshop explored the expert craftsmanship needed to assemble Chaumet creations, highlighting the maison’s expertise and knowledge. We found the petite and pretty Audrey Tautou in rapt attention as craftsmen and women explained how Parisian jewellers created the unique pieces. When Kirsten Dunst arrived – the cynosure of the evening – she spent the longest time at the Lumières Célestes collection, a tribute to the culture and history of China.
