Cartier Queen’s Cup UK
May 22 – 16 June, 2013
Well known for its longstanding polo tradition, Cartier has again sponsored the annual Cartier Queen’s Cup in the United Kingdom, one of the world’s leading polo tournaments. The sponsorship, which is in its second year, brought an extra dash of glamour to the iconic competition, drawing celebrities such as Sharon Stone, Thandie Newton and, of course, Her Majesty the Queen herself. Held at the Guards Polo Club, the Cup has a history of featuring exciting high-goal matches that presents a treat for both players and spectators. Illustrious players have included Prince Philip and his son Prince Charles. Both royals have played tournament finals in the past, with the Prince of Wales even taking home the trophy.
Cartier’s association with the sport of kings began in the United Kingdom with the establishment of Cartier International Polo in 1985, a high society event which counts Princes Charles and Harry as former frequent players. Over the years, the jewellery house has also lent its name and enthusiasm to several other polo contests around the world, such as the Cartier World Elephant Polo Championships, the Cartier Polo World Cup on Snow and the Cartier Dubai Polo Challenge.
