ASIA SOCIETY, ASIA SOCIETY HONG KONG CENTER, MAY 12
Some 400 cultural luminaries gathered for the Asia Society’s second annual Art Gala, which honoured Bharti Kher, Liu Guosong, Takashi Murakami and Zhang Xiaogang for their influence on contemporary art. The event began with a cocktail at the Asia Society Hong Kong Center, at which pieces available for silent auction were on display, including works by Wilson Shieh, Yue Minjun, Tsang Kin-wah and Zhang Huan. Guests then adjourned for dinner at the Conrad Hong Kong, during which honorees were introduced, each giving a short speech. Also in attendance at the event were artists Li Songsong, Mariko Mori and Song Dong, and gallerists Emmanuel Perrotin and Jean- Pierre Lehman, as well as Robert and Chantal Miller, who recently donated HK$100 million to the Asia Society Hong Kong Center to commission major new works from local artists for the venue.
