Brazil-born model Alessandra Ambrosio is one of the original Victoria’s Secret (VS) Angels. Now aged 36 and a mother of two, this breathtaking beauty started her career at the age of 12 when she was enrolled at a modeling class – and today she’s still one of the most in-demand models in the fashion industry, having appeared on endless magazine covers, catwalks and on top of that, she’s been with Victoria’s Secret for more than 10 years.
With the opening of the Victoria’s Secret full-assortment flagship store on St Mark’s Square at the Venetian Macao on April 28, local lingerie lovers and beauty addicts can now sport some of Ambrosio’s favourite VS underwear items, and luxuriate in its cosmetics and fragrances. The brand-new Victoria’s Secret boutique carries a complete selection of the brand’s lingerie collections, its university-inspired PINK line, the athletic line Victoria Sport as well as the company’s signature scents and body care products. To mark the occasion, we get the dish on VS from Ambrosio.
Tell us about your first time walking for Victoria’s Secret.
My first time walking for Victoria’s Secret was so magical. That year, the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show was hosted in Cannes during the Film festival, and it was so glamorous.
Do you have a special beauty regimen and fitness routine months leading up to the Victoria’s Secret fashion show?
I try to eat healthy all year long and exercise regularly. A month before the show I work out more and I don’t eat as much dessert. I’ve been doing the Tracy Anderson Method as it’s the most fun way to workout. It feels like a dance class and not a workout.
How do you celebrate after the show is over?
We do a pizza party with all of the girls. It’s been a really fun tradition!
What was the first Victoria’s Secret item you bought?
Wow. I’m not sure if I can remember but I think it was one of the beautiful robes.
How do you balance your career and family time?
I believe that it’s all about prioritizing and creating a schedule that maximizes my time at home, so that I can spend time with my kids.
How do your kids react when they see you on television and in magazines?
They understand that I am in the public eye and they get very excited! However, that doesn’t last long as they have so many distractions as kids.
You have a really successful modeling career. What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
Make sure to be true to yourself and fight for your dreams!
Do you have any new projects coming up this year?
I am currently filming a movie – Daddy’s Home 2. It will be released in November.
What was it like growing up in Brazil?
Brazil is amazing. The people are full of energy and love. I grew up being surrounded with positive vibes.
What are your thoughts on today’s generation of young models?
They are all great, hardworking girls. I have a lot of respect for them.
