Pretty was the keyword of Dior cruise 2017 collection, shown within the classic British architecture of Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire in June. Puffed sleeves and floral-print tea dresses meet mini skirts with sweaters, flared leather pants and chunky gilded heels. Together, they form a new collection that defines the new femininity – delicate and tough overlapping each other in a relaxed manner.
The prettiness that is deep-rooted in Dior’s DNA is said to have come from Monsieur Dior’s early exposure to beautiful flowers at Granville, France where his childhood home was. From there, the fashion extraordinaire would develop “the sense of form and colours that would seduce women all over the world”.
For sentimental reason, Dior brings Marion Cotillard, the house’s ambassador, to Granville to shoot the cruise 2017 campaign. Amid storybook-worthy blooms, Craig McDean photographed the seasoned actress, who was dressed in strong hues or delicate embroideries from the cruise 2017 collection. She carries the Lady Dior bags – in bright red or black version, their strap personalised with Lucky Badges spelling her initials, or the green exotic leather embroidered with floral motifs.
