The Michael Kors spring/summer 2018 collection brings breezy, beach-like ease to city women.
American designer Michael Kors is well known for his all-American aesthetic, crisp tailoring and penchant for glamour, as well as the ability to surprise. And he’s done that again this season by taking women’s fashion in a more laid-back direction with a collection brimming with a coastal vibe that is designed for ease.
Inspiration comes from sarongs, kimonos and pajamas juxtaposed with oversized menswear tailoring in a palette that runs from breezy pastels to graphic navy, grey and black, offering something for every type of personality, mood and occasion – from city to poolside.
A surprising addition is tie-dye, seen on a short, leg-revealing summer dress that looks like sweatshirt but is cashmere lined with cotton. Light-as-a-summer-breeze fabrics, such as chiffon, linen gauze and silk georgette in dreamy hues, are cut on the bias for ultra-feminine summer dress, and teamed with tweed trench, cashmere pullover or chiffon scarf. Palm prints make a striking impression, whether in subtle pastels or contrasting colours, worn with oversized blazer or draped jacket with waist-accentuating leather belt.
Accessories add to the summery playfulness of this collection, too. Some bags are also given the tie-dye treatment, while others are more timeless in style, yet relaxed, as seen in the Bancroft satchel in calf leather, and the chic Skorpios, which brings understated luxe to everyday looks. The ladylike aesthetic of the Cate shoulder bag is given a renegade edge with the addition on chain-link accents. Kor’s has also made the flip-flop the height of fashion in calf or luxurious crocodile, stamped with his name on the sole – naturally.
