Belgian designer Raf Simons is best known for his sleek, modern designs that hold an edgy and effortless appeal. For the second consecutive season, the ex-Christian Dior creative director has joined forces with Australian wool experts at The Woolmark Company for his spring/summer 2018 collection, to produce 50 looks that pay homage to this oft-overlooked fabric.
As the male cast streamed down the makeshift New York runway a few short weeks ago, clad in layered knits and suiting, they clutched umbrellas and wore wide-brimmed hats pulled tightly over their brows. In typical Simons style, silhouettes were loose and full, and proportions were generous all round.
We’ve picked out a number of toasty merino knitwear pullovers that are bang on the money – pick from single block shades or two-tone striped versions and don’t shy away from the bigger-is-better fit. They were made for men, but we know a few ladies who won’t want to miss out, as evidenced by the odd XX chromosome that made an appearance on the circuit. Keep an eye on the trousers too; the cropped below-the-knee length is combined with a straight cut, giving them a fresh vibe that will translate well on the street.
You’ll have to wait a few more months until the spring/summer 2018 collection makes its way into stores – but for now you can enjoy a sneak peek and get started planning your look.
