Adeline Ooi

Director Asia of Art Basel, Adeline Ooi leads the team responsible for delivering the annual art fair in Hong Kong, and supports galleries in Asia with their presentations at Art Basel’s fairs in Basel and Miami. A graduate of London’s Central Saint Martins, Ooi is a specialist in Asian art with a strong background in curation, who received The Nippon Foundation Asian Public Intellectuals Fellowship Grant early in her career and cut her teeth at Valentine Willie Fine Art gallery. In 2009, she co-founded RogueArt, a cultural agency based in her native Malaysia, which published the four-volume Narratives in Malaysia Art on the development of visual art in the country. Prior to taking on the position of director, Ooi was VIP relations manager for Art Basel in Southeast Asia for two years. She’s a polyglot who understands seven languages/ dialects, including English, Cantonese, Mandarin, Malay, Hokkien, Bahasa Indonesia and Tagalog.


The first woman of Asian descent to hold such a senior position at Art Basel, Ooi has been instrumental in shining a spotlight on Asian art, building a concrete bridge between Asia and the West, connecting the various scenes across this region and elevating them to be shown on an international platform.
