Founder and managing director of Kwai Fung Hin Art Gallery, Kwai Fung Art Consultants, Kwai Po Collection and Kwai Fung Art Publishing House, Catherine Kwai has been a patron and advocate for Asian artists for the past three decades.
She’s curated more than 150 exhibitions, most recently a George Matthieu retrospective with K11 Foundation. In 2019, Kwai brought 30 years’ worth of Li Huayi’s works to the Honolulu Museum of Art for a six-month- long showcase. For her contributions to the arts and cultural exchanges between East and West, Kwai was invested as a Knight of the National Order of Merit and a Knight of the Order of the Star of Italy by the French and Italian governments respectively.
Finding opportunity amid crises. In 2008, when companies were shutting down around the world, Kwai focused on the art-consulting aspect of her business, partnering with hotels and property developers to provide contemporary artworks for their lobbies to attract buyers, consumers and investors. Curiosity, humility and an eagerness to learn have long guided Kwai in her career, along with the words of TS Eliot: “Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go.”
