Ruth Chao launched her career at British Vogue, honing her skills to work on design for the likes of Maison Martin Margiela, The Met Gala and Stella McCartney. She later worked with Oscar-nominated art director William Chang Suk-Ping, touching upon different realms of design to build an all-round expertise in creating visual journeys
in a variety of contexts.
She now runs her own design and branding practice, Ruth Chao Studio, working with top international brands such as the Swire group, Audemars Piguet and La Prairie. One of the youngest creative directors to win a Berlin Red Dot Award, she’s picked up this design accolade thrice in the last five years, along with some 40 international design awards. In 2022, Chao will launch a brand of her own for the first time, merging luxury, sustainability and beauty, and handling all aspects from concept and creation to design and marketing.
Melding commerce and creativity, without compromise. Chao’s work is consistently elegant and on point, earning client confidence that enables her to push design boundaries – for example, by insisting that all brands that work with the studio to print their materials on recycled paper only.
