Co-founding CEO of EPIC John-Son Oei joins five other promising young humanitarians who will be honoured for their humanitarian work during the Fifth Annual Muhammad Ali Humanitarian Awards, hosted by Michael Buffer and presented by Brown-Forman, this 23 September 2017 in Louisville, Kentucky, at the Marriott Louisville Downtown. The six individuals will each receive an award that mirrors one of Muhammad Ali’s six core principles – Confidence, Conviction, Dedication, Giving, Respect and Spirituality – which aligns with their respective fields of work.
As such, John-Son is the only representative for this year’s listing and will be receiving the Dedication Award. A great believer in “great things can be achieved by masses of people doing small purposeful actions”, he established EPIC (Extraordinary People Impacting Community) in hopes of building relationships between the urban and rural divide through the activity of building homes for underprivileged communities in Malaysia. Thus far, EPIC has built more than 100 homes while working with over 5,000 volunteers, from more than 50 countries and over 40 renowned organisations, including multinational companies like Prudential, GE, Energizer, Nestle and Tetra Pak Malaysia. It was only recently that John-Son was listed as a promising young leader under the Forbes 30 under 30 Asia in the Social Entrepreneur category in 2016.
Other awardees are Founder and President of Lucky Iron Fish Gavin Armstrong (awarded with Confidence), Co-founder and CEO of Aspire Mohammed Ashour (awarded with Conviction), Co-founder and CEO of FoodCloud Iseult Ward (awarded with Giving), Founder of SHRI Anoop Jain (awarded with Respect) and Founder of The Ladybug Foundation Hannah Taylor (awarded with Spirituality).
*John-Son Oei was one of Prestige Malaysia 40 Under 40 2015 personalities.
