What does it take for something to be considered a work of art? @cansgallery’s latest exhibition, “Matter Matters: New Media, Materiality, and the Artworld”, presents eight artworks using new mediums that go beyond created using other conservative forms like canvas.
Eight artists and seven collectors have contributed to the exhibition to inspire their peers. One of the collectors is Wiyu Wahono, who began collecting paintings and sculptures 20 years ago. But for the last 12 years, he found his love for video art and has lent one of his pieces, a video by a Singaporean artist Ming Wong titled “Life of Imitation”. The artist is known for building layers of cinematic language, social structure, identity, and introspection through his own re-telling of world cinema.
Indonesian collectors who have lent their art pieces are Wiyu Wahono, Evelyn Halim, Indra Leonardi, Natasha Sidharta, Rudi Lazuardi, Tommy Sutomo, and Tom Tandio. Some of the artists who’s artworks are displayed at the exhibition were also attended the opening night, including Agan Harahap, Aliansyah Chaniago, Bandu Darmawan, Eldwin Pradipta, Erika Ernawan, Fluxcup, Julian Abraham Togar Muhammad Akbar, and Ricky Janitra.
In the exhibition at #CansGallery that runs from 23 January – 22 February 2020, you can see eight artworks that will make you see art in infinite ways. Find out more about the exhibition from our live stories in Instagram Highlight: Can’s Gallery.
