As Prestige Indonesia celebrates its 15th anniversary, the publication held yet another edition of its signature event: the Prestige Gala. On the evening of December 4, 2019, more than 400 invitees— from the most prominent members of Jakarta’s high society to acclaimed actors, notable celebrities and more—convened at the Grand Ballroom of Shangri-La Hotel Jakarta for a spectacular bash hosted by none other than the Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Prestige, Ronald Liem.
By 7PM on that Wednesday night, a steady flow of ladies and gentlemen in their best evening gowns, suits and tuxedoes went through the red carpet of the event venue. Each and everyone made the obligatory stop at the Wall of Fame to have their photographs taken or to record a brief video message.
In one particularly memorable clip, actress Cinta Laura happily said: “Happy Anniversary, Prestige magazine! Wish you all the best and thanks for having me.” Our October 2019 cover girl, Jean Claudia, wished the magazine glamorous years ahead. Meanwhile, Adinda Bakrie, who has graced the cover of Prestige for eight times said: “Always stay fabulous and cheers for the amazing years ahead!”
Past the red carpet guests arrived at the foyer of the ballroom, which was lavishly decorated following a Christmas theme—as the holiday was just around the corner. They caught up with friends and acquaintances while enjoying delectable canapes served by Shangri-La and spirits by Pernod Ricard. As always, Ronald Liem was on hand to personally greet each of the guests.
As they waited for the main event to start, the gala’s guests also explored various offerings by the event’s partners. First in line was The Time Place, which presented a number of special, eye-catching timepieces in a modern minimalistic booth. The Time Place is the first retail chain developed by Time International and made its debut in Plaza Senayan all the way back in 1999. Today, The Time Place boasts an expansive portfolio of watches from more than two dozen international brands.
Another major patron of Prestige Gala 2019 was Oppo, which prepared a spacious Christmas-themed photobooth that became an instant crowd favourite. Guests could also experience the capabilities of the brand’s latest flagship phone, the Oppo Reno 10x Zoom which—thanks to its powerful 48MP ultra-clear main camera, 13MP telephoto lens and 8MP wide-angle lens—made it perfect to immortalize the evening’s festivities. Launched in 2008, Oppo has become a pioneer of extraordinary technology, bringing the aesthetics of technology to its global consumer base through increasingly smart devices.
Another booth that was impossible to miss was the one by leading luxury brand Lancôme. Founded in 1935 by Guillaume d’Ornano and his business partner Armand Petitjean, the brand took its name from the forest of Lancosme. Today, the company provides fragrances, skin care products and makeup. At this Prestige Gala, Lancôme presented the gold standard of anti-ageing skincare, The Absolue series, together with a rose-themed photo booth that also became a show-stealer.
Also present to support the gala was Mario Minardi, a bespoke local luxury leather shoes founded in 1983. Besides displaying its range of products, the brand also held a live wallet painting demonstration. The brand combines the best of Italian leather and Indonesian craftmanship to provide incredible shoes, sandals, belts and various accessories for just about anybody.
Last but not least, Prestige Gala 2019 wasn’t only about having fun. As in previous editions of the event, there was a charitable aspect to the gala. This time around it was the Prestige x Oppo Silent Auction, which was held to support Happy Hearts Indonesia, a charity organisation founded by supermodel Petra Nemcova in 2006 that focuses on rebuilding schools in areas devastated by natural disasters. Another beneficiary of the silent auction was Rachel House, which provides specialised palliative care for children from marginalized communities living with serious and life-limiting illnesses such as cancer and AIDS.
Guests were encouraged to on holiday packages from ten participating hotels, including Siam Kempinski, Intercontinental Maldives, The Fullerton Hotel Sydney, The St. Regis Hong Kong, Apurva Kempinski, The Legian Seminyak, Six Senses Uluwatu, Madapa a Ritz Carlton Reserve, St. Regis Bali, and Lelewatu Resort Sumba. Each package also included a free Oppo Reno 10x Zoom smartphone.
As the clock struck 9, the lights in the foyer were dimmed and the ballroom doors were opened. The main event of Prestige Gala 2019 was about to start.
