WINE & DINE — Celebrating Valentine’s Day in style, FooJohn is presenting an exciting culinary experience that pays homage to Wong Kar-wai’s masterpiece, In the Mood for Love. A celebration of love, classic films, and art, expect a romantic dinner complemented by musical acts, live character performances, and movie screenings. With many iconic scenes from the film actually shot at Charoenkrung area, it almost feels like you’ve stepped into the movie itself. Food-wise, expect a four course menu including cold quinoa risotto with beetroots, porccini and fresh cheese, a choice between lamb and prosciutto roast on asparagus or monk fish seared on roasted veggies, and a succulent dessert of chocolate cheese served with strawberry slices and ice cream. Vegetarian options are also available — along with bubbly!

ART & CULTURE — As we get ready to celebrate love on Valentine’s Day this Friday, let’s not forget that love should be inclusive. Following this streak, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands joins hands with Document Our History Now to host LGBTI Documentary Night, which is making its return for the third time. As part of the event, five documentaries will be screened, including Bhikkuni, Happy ever after, That’s the way I am, Double Luck, and M/F/X. Not only that, but a special guest will also be joining — the director of Bhikkuni, Tanwarin “Golf” Sukkhapasit”, who is also Thailand’s first transgender MP.

ART & CULTURE — Galleries Night is back! Organised annually by the Embassy of France in Thailand, the event makes its 7th return, bringing together over 70 galleries and 250 Thai and international artists. A great way for both Bangkok-dwelling creatives and those looking to find out more about the local art scene, the affair runs for two nights, with exciting exhibitions and events taking place at various partnering galleries. Tuk-tuk services facilitate travel between each of the art spaces, and this year, those joining in will also be able to download a special mobile application that offers essential information about the event. Fun fact: as this year’s Galleries Night falls on Valentine’s Day, the theme is ‘Love is in the Art’ — a slogan that will be reflected in the exhibitions as well.

NEWS & EVENTS — Fans of La Dotta can rejoice, as you can now learn how to make your favourite dishes at home. La Dotta Pasta Bar & Store will be introducing a special artisanal pasta class, with the first session kicking off this week. Personally taught by chef-partner Francesco Delana, expect an unveiling of secrets behind making authentic Italian pasta and sauces from scratch — taught the way he himself was taught by his grandmother. As this is just the soft launch, currently there are two different classes to opt from. Pasta 101 goes over making both fresh and dried pasta such as fettuccine, tagliatelle, and ravioli, as well as some of the restaurant’s signature delicious. Say, Cheese! Goes over how to make the classic carbonara just like how it’s done in Rome, along with the signature Four Cheese Torteloni dish.

ART & CULTURE — A collaboration between famed visual artist Tae Parvit and Jay Vatanakuljaras, The Garden Club comes in the form of a retreat space created based on the concept of a ‘garden’. Within this space, visitors can experience live music and stretching exercises by Jay Vatanakuljaras and Fay Lee Thung, complemented by a special video installation by Tae Parvit — inspired by his Savage Garden exhibition at pon ding art space in Taipei last year. Members are invited to dive into relaxation through a serene space dominated by visuals and sounds, while the installation itself is an expression of the artists’ memories, senses, and personal experiences. 

There will be two slow stretching and live music sessions lasting from 6-8pm and 8-10pm, February 14, 2020. The Garden Club installation will be open for public viewing from February 12 – 16, 2020. To find out more, visit the official Facebook event page.
