The second annual Pink Ribbon Gala Charity Dinner, to be held on October 10 with Prestige as Media Partner, honours breast cancer survivors and warriors. Liviani Putri and Claudia Rindiantika met seven of the campaign’s strongest supporters.
PATRICIA DEVINA DEXTRA – SINGER AND ACTRESS
“Beating breast cancer is a topic that tugs at my heartstrings,” says 23-year-old Patricia. “I have witnessed some of my mother’s friends fighting it. It made me sad to see them and their families suffering. I feel that we are all in the fight together, not just the patient herself, so I’m thrilled to be involved in the Pink Ribbon campaign. I hope that with our message we can encourage one another. It’s very important to maintain a healthy lifestyle, a healthy mind and a positive vibe.”

ElXI ELVINA – FASHION INFLUENCER
“I see breast cancer survivors and warriors as some of the strongest people I’ve ever met,” smiles Elxie. “They fight really hard, yet remain positive. I have huge respect for them. In my life, I always want to be part of something that brings a positive impact to women. Through this campaign, I want to say that self-love is the biggest help. We are in charge of our own lives. It starts with changing our lifestyle by eating healthier and doing more exercise. If there’s something you’re worried about, go seek help. You are not alone.”

PRADIKTA WICAKSONO – SINGER AND ACTOR
Having lost his father to liver cancer two years ago, Wicaksono didn’t think twice about lending his support to Pink Ribbon. “It was a huge feeling of devastation for all of us in the family,” he recalls. “I was really close with my father, he was my role model. Several of the women in my family have had brushes with breast cancer. That’s why I want to spread the message about taking steps to prevent it as early as possible. I believe a healthy body comes from a healthy mind, no matter how active our life is.”

SAHILA HISYAM – ACTRESS
Seeing her aunt and her mother’s friend taken away by cancer made Sahila realise that this scourge can attack anyone at any age. “That’s why I want to be involved in campaigns like Pink Ribbon,” she says. “Because giving moral support is one of the important ways to get people through it. When someone experiences it, it also affects those close to them. Besides your lifestyle, I think stress is a big issue. So besides eating healthy, exercising and getting enough rest, we also have to take care of our mind. Then positive energy can come.”

ELLE YAMADA – DIGITAL CONTENT CREATOR
“I feel really honoured to join this campaign,” says Elle. “I understand it’s not easy to deal with, but surrounding yourself with supportive people helps you ride through the storm. Laughter is also good medicine. I just read about someone who recovered from cancer and said it was partly thanks to binge-watching Friends episodes! My sister Jess and I are busy developing Dapur Fit, a healthy diet business. It has been said that you are what you eat. How true – and don’t forget to drink lots of water!”

KANTY WIDJAJA – TV PERSONALITY
“When I was 10, my mother was diagnosed with inherited breast cancer. It was a hard time for the family,” Kanty says. “Everyone was surprised because she was a healthy, positive person. She didn’t drink or smoke. But everything happens for a reason. The cancer scare brought the family closer together. Eighteen years have passed and my mother’s recovery continues. This is the perfect time for me to spread this positive message. Check your breasts. If there’s something unusual, don’t hesitate to visit the doctor. Early detection really helps.”

ANASTASIA SIANTAR – STYLE BLOGGER
This 30-year-old writer does not have personal experience with cancer. “But I’m happy to be part of Pink Ribbon,” Anastasia says. “I live a fast-paced life. I’m involved in branding management projects and collaborations with local labels. In spite of my tight schedule, I try to remember to keep up a healthy lifestyle. I like to exercise and eat healthy. Besides living healthy, we have to be aware of our bodies. Have yourself checked regularly by your doctor. Don’t ever get too lazy to do it. It’s important.”
