“Women are too demanding, nit-picky, and over-thinkers.”
“Being bossy and overthinking can be useful sometimes. You have to concentrate on your real goals and the big picture, but also give attention to the little details.” — Tirawan “Waew” Taechaubol, Project Development Manager at Kasemkij Group.
As we near International Women’s Day 2020, there’s no time like the present to celebrate the women in our lives — from the females who inspire us in the fearless pursuit of their passions, to women like our mothers, without whom many of us would not be where we are today. In our mini-series, ‘Defying Stereotypes’, we speak to highly-accomplished women, who offer a different spin on negative cliches females often come across, proving that there is more than one way for a woman to feel empowered, and that — in the spirit of an equal society — every woman deserves her own sense of place and individual respect.
Among these women, we spoke to Tirawan “Waew” Taechaubol, currently the Project Development Manager at Kasemkij Group — a well-established property development and management company run by her family, and the name behind establishments such as Cape & Kantara and Kameo Hotels. Though career-driven, highly accomplished, and always on point, when Waew isn’t hitting new milestones at work, she plays the role of doting mother and loving wife — proof that a woman can have many, many different sides. In an exclusive interview, she shared her views on how being demanding and over-analytical can be good traits rather than bad, as well as the importance of being meticulous, and staying true to your dreams.
Are women “too demanding, nit-picky, and overthink?”
Stylish and successful, Waew juggles her responsibilities as a loving mother and project development manager at Kasemkij Group — a feat she achieves through shrewdness, quick-thinking, and a critical approach to tackling issues.
When asked how she feels about the stereotype that women can be too bossy or over-analytical at work, she shrugs it off. “I don’t think there is such a stereotype, as it can apply to both men or women,” she says simply, and then adds with a smile: “but being bossy and overthinking can be useful sometimes.”
On defying stereotypes:
To Waew, it isn’t a question of trying to disprove cliches and negative notions, but to be able to see your bigger goals and focus on achieving them. “I think you have to concentrate on your real goals, and the big picture,” she tells us, “but also give attention to the little details.”
On achieving your own success:
“Luckily, Thailand is one of those countries where gender is not too big of an issue,” Waew explains, and in many ways this is true. Thailand still ranks second globally for the number of women in senior management, but these statistics aren’t an excuse to sit back and relax. “I still believe that, whether you are a man or a woman, you have to prove it to earn it.”
