Albert Yanuar’s love for fashion began when he was in fourth grade. “I loved to draw Japanese anime character and gradually I started modifying their outfits,” he recalls. “I realised that fashion was the path that I wanted to pursue, so I decided to join ESMOD College at 14 years old and gave the best of myself.” When he graduated, he was named The Best Fashion Designer 2000-2003 and later, in 2011, he won the LPM Entrepreneur Award and a scholarship to study at Instituto Marangoni in Italy.
Yanuar’s first real job was as the assistant designer of Sebastian Gunawan. Two years later he decided to open his own label based on customised design.
“I was starting from scratch,” he recalls. “I started with door-to-door selling, made sweet seventeen party dresses. But driven by the spirit to always move forward and improved, and thanks to my loyal customers and the power of word-of-mouth marketing, I was able to make dresses for important events until I reached the point where customers would trust me to design their wedding dresses.”
After 15 years in the fashion industry, Yanuar expanded his brand into to include bridal gowns, couture, womenswear, menswear and uniforms. Looking ahead, he has plenty of new ideas to explore, from opening online sketching classes to restructuring his company and introduce new marketing plans.
