SALMAN SUBAKAT

SALMAN SUBAKAT

Salman Subakat joined his family’s business after finishing his studies at Bandung Institute of Technology in 2002. He is the second child of Nurhayati Subakat, founder of Paragon Technology and Innovation, whose cosmetics brands include Wardah, Make Over and Emina.

“It was a calling for me to join the company,” says 38-year-old Salman, whose role is Chief Marketing Officer. “I was able to go to university and have a good life because of the company that my parents built. I felt like I needed to give back.”

Paragon is the country’s first halal cosmetics manufacturer and as a result Wardah has become a leading cosmetics brand in Indonesia. It faces growing competition from global brands that are introducing halal cosmetics. “Wardah grows organically because people genuinely like our products,” Salman says. “When consumers’ awareness of halal products increased, we were already there to serve them. The timing was right.”
