“Art to me is the process or care that one shows in creating something. I want people to show more love and passion in what they are doing, looking for the beauty in their daily activities, which would eventually lead to a more mindful and exciting lifestyle.” — Benson Putra, Bartega co-founder
What started as an ordinary dinner between college friends turned to be the creation of Bartega, a company that is bringing art closer and more accessible to Indonesians and beyond!
University of Southern California alumni Benson Putra, Jazz Pratama, and Nadia Daniella met in February 2017 over dinner and casually spoke about creating a unique and impactful art community in Jakarta.
Three years later, with clients like Louis Vuitton, Disney, Unilever, Chanel, Chopard, Facebook to name a few, the trio of art lovers haven’t just built a company, they’ve also democratised the art scene in the land.
Bartega comes from the words “Bar” a place where people socialize and “Bottega”, Italian word for artist workshop.
It is the very first paint and sip event management company in Indonesia that, as its name suggests, hosts occasions that are “less like a class, but more like a party”.
Its ethos is simple: to bring joy by mixing the therapeutic powers of painting and the excitement a glass of wine can bring. What’s not to love?
So what happens exactly in a Bartega event?
It’s come as you are. Whether a public or private art event, Bartega caters to everyone—no matter your age and no matter your painting skill level.
“One of the reasons why we established Bartega was also to break the notion that art is something that’s far from anyone’s reach. We want anyone who doesn’t have any artistic background or skills to be able to discover their inner artist.” — Benson Putra
Their public events are held in various places around Jakarta–typically restaurants, coffee shops, co-working spaces, or even in a house–each carefully tailored fit to the client’s needs. Talk about mobility!
The Bartega team encourages you to bring out your creativity, the artist in you. Their skilled and professional team provides guidance and directions creating and reproducing artwork. They conduct guided acrylic painting session—and their attendees can bring their artwork home with them.
Wine or beer is served as a complement, an optional addition to the experience.
Their events are a great avenue for people to socialise and build friendships and potentially explore new passions.
And their events can be therapeutic too.
“Each event is structured to last for up to three hours. I design the class for people to slow down. I want them to care about the colors they mix, the brushstrokes they make, and the objects that they shape on a blank canvas. The process of creating a painting is more of an art than the result itself. This makes art as a meditative activity that would calm one’s mind, enabling them to understand their true potential within,” says Benson.

What’s more, Bartega does give back.
They have previously worked with non-profit organisations, namely United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), Jakarta Animal Aid Network (JAAN), Centre for Orangutan Protection (COP), House of Grace, and Sahabat Anak Foundation. They have conducted public events with proceeds donated to the cause of each organisation.
With these, Prestige dare say Bartega is reshaping the art scene in Indonesia.
