If your kids love art, there is a big art exhibition coming up in Singapore, Gallery Children’s Biennale 2019. It will be held on May 25, 2019, at National Gallery Singapore and runs for seven months. With Embracing Wonder as its theme, the kids will be able to explore imaginative artwork installations. The art installations are built by Singaporean and Southeast Asian artists, including Indonesian Artist, Eko Nugroho.
The art exhibition is dedicated for young audiences so they can create an experience through imaginations like never before. Gallery Children’s Biennale 2019 also promotes interactive arts – not just a stand still installation with ropes that limit the observation space.
There are art activities that your children will enjoy the most, such as composing tunes, braiding trees, wandering beneath beautiful lanterns, and many more. Besides providing an array of exciting programs for the whole families, three new works inspired by the visual culture and daily life of Singapore’s past will be available to educate the kids about the nation’s history. Creative installations such as creating a melody using ping pong balls, five dome adventures, cardboard sculpting, and stamping will also further enhance your kids’ senses.
KENANGAN KUNANG-KUNANG (MEMORIES OF FIREFLIES, from May 25 – June 29, 2019)
The exhibitions have major commissioned artists to create the art installations, such as Song-Ming Ang with Chance Operation, Donna Ong with Every World, Aung Ko and Nge Lay with The Other Wall, and many other talented artists throughout Southeast Asia.
One of the featured artwork installations displayed at the National Gallery Singapore is Kenangan Kunang-Kunang (Memories of Fireflies) by talented Indonesian Artist, Eko Nugroho. It features colourful Javanese lanterns with paintings of everyday life in Java. The installation also features gobo lights and motion sensors. His signature in art consists of batik pattern combination and vivid images and colours of contemporary street art.
Gallery Children’s Biennale has offered an array of performances, talk shows with featured artists, poetry reading, and workshops. They are available only during the first and the second weekend of the first month of the exhibition.
Gallery Children’s Biennale exhibition runs from May 25 – December 29, 2019. It opens from 10 am to 7 pm. Tickets cost $20 for adults, while a ticket for children aged 7 to 12 years old costs $15.
