Part of Alia Bastamam’s inaugural Lunar Cruise 2020 collection which was inspired by a painting by contemporary Chinese painter Liu Ye, this sensual take on the classic cheongsam silhouette showcases a hand-embellished lace appliqué on a silk crêpe construction. Additional highlights of this modern eight-piece collection include neckpieces resembling Mandarin collars, buttons transposed with ladylike bows and tassels, and sparkling appliqués in Swarovski crystal.

Simple yet sublime, this sensational fuchsia number entices with its sheer cutouts and crystal detailing. Part of the extravagant Lunar 2020 collection by Brian Khoo, additional standout pieces include waist-cinching corsets, lacy dresses and gowns embroidered with crystals and microbeads.

For its Lunar New Year 2020 collection, Innai Red taps into 1920s Shanghai to deliver an elegant range of cheongsams in sumptuous fabrics including brocade, taffeta, charmeuse silk, and French lace. For an extra sweet and feminine touch, one can’t go wrong with this pink pastel number which includes a flattering asymmetrical hem with panels of patterned embroidery.

Presented in vibrant teal with an embroidered orange print, there’s simply no denying that this lively little number is unmistakably Khoon Hooi. Part of the designer’s Qi Pao 2020 collection, other modern reinterpretations of traditional Chinese garments to be discovered include bespoke jackets and dresses that double as vests.

Crafted in gold and red taffeta with hints of red lace, this auspicious outfit is part of the newest RTW collection by Melinda Looi. Inspired by Peranakan culture and the nostalgic feelings of a long forgotten past, the collection offers a multitude of creative pieces including sumptuous broad-shouldered garments, wide sleeves, V-necks and buttoned-up collars paired with sarong skirts and wide trousers.
