Berluti Menswear SS20 collection is full of classic and timeless tailoring with contemporary twists on the clothing textures. Feathery, metallic, nail-headed suits highlight Berluti’s modern, luxury collection. Held at Paris’ grand art gallery, Orangerie Férou, Jardin du Luxembourg, surrounding the semi-outdoor catwalk was an immense garden with floral bushes and shady trees.
Artistic Director Kris Van Assche took inspiration from the craftsmanship at Berluti’s Ferrara factory. The shoemakers are holding small nail heads between their lips as they work to ensemble every shoe. As a result, an eccentric nail-headed suit set was born.
Further fashion pieces of the collection are armless outers and overcoats with different textures from patina leather, feathers embellishments, and the shining silky suit. Neon hues like ultraviolet, orange, yellow and blue enhance the whole collection to be vibrant and bright. Moreover, these hues also appeared on a white shirt with a stain of paint marbles. These painted shirts also peeped through a series of the suit in the collection that creates a dapper yet playful, modern look.
Creative Director Kris Van Assche emphasizes that female models should also play an important role in the show. “This is a man’s brand, there is no doubt, but it is also nice to play with seduction”, he explained. Assche also told the New York-based Italian casting Director, Piergiorgio Del Moro, to gather female models. “’Bring me the most beautiful girls in the world, because the world needs beauty!’”, he said.
One of the top models that have been appearing multiple times on men’s fashion show, Gigi Hadid, closed the runway with a bold neon green suit with feathers embellishments. Renowned Chinese top model, Liu Wen also pulled off an all-black statement suit with her strong and power catwalk on the show.
