As the holiday season’s coming closer, there’s never a time for luxury houses to compete for an attention of fashion customers. The usual holiday gift series aside, there’s the cruise/ resort collection usually slated to launch in store from November for veteran shoppers who adore their more relaxing silhouettes and simplified designs that make them more of an investment piece that seasonal, short-lived purchase. Louis Vuitton went one step ahead, restating its Cruise 2020 presentation in the heart of Bangkok to court customers and wow fans.
The original runway show was staged back in May at the TWA Flight Center at John F Kennedy airport — a once-discarded space with unique architectural style. A monumental landmark of the 1980s — the time when Louis Vuitton’s creative director Nicolas Ghesquière first landed in the US, and laid eyes on this UFO-like station.
This backstory gives way for a collection grounded in air travel inspirations. Flight suits and badges, pieces inspired by TWA iconic flight bags and the new LV Airline motif, the list never ends. Yes, travel in the eyes of Ghesquière always comes with the notion of time travel, albeit though the different fashion references he sprinkles all over the collection: 1960s bubble skirts and batwing sleeves, 1980s minidresses, and the Art Deco sensibility borrowed directly from New York’s skyscrapers.
Also introduced in this collection are sturdy and chic combat boots and a number of new accessories. The Monogram Midnight is a Gotham/ superhero take on the monogram canvas and it’s a must-have! Another newbie worth taking notice is the Pochette LV Thelma — an evening bag with a new logo inspired by makeup compact with inside mirror.
