The French maison has announced the opening of its Ginza Namiki flagship store in Tokyo’s top shopping district.
Presenting an ambitious transformation of an existing location, Louis Vuitton’s new store is reimagined as an aesthetic dialogue between virtuoso architects Jun Aoki and Peter Marino, inspiring wonder both outside and within. The project sees a fusion of the contemporary building aesthetic with the local streets of Tokyo.
Jun Aoki’s highly modern exterior interprets the reflections of water as a material phenomenon. The façade’s outer panes curve and ripple, creating a three-dimensional effect that is enhanced by a dichroic film that produces endless colour variations. Behind the smooth, undulating surface of water, the retail space inside, which spans across four floors, also gets a full revision by Peter Marino. Marino’s design emphasizes the building’s organic aesthetic with a central staircase of sculptured oak bordered by glass. Guests can see a glass façade that transmits shifting colours to the feature staircase and fixtures.
The retail experience includes a permanent pop-in space for its upcoming arrivals. Then on the upper levels, a dedicated private salon for VIP client is available, as well as culinary experience Le Café V, which celebrates chef Yosuke Suga’s second collaboration with the Maison. Furthermore, Louis Vuitton’s first in-house chocolates will also be making their debut at the store at the end of April.
