Last year, Artistic Director of Hermès Véronique Nichanian presented her designs for the brand’s Spring/Summer 2020 (SS20) collection by taking over the Mobilier National for the second time. She turned the furniture depository into a runway for the luxurious men’s collection and provided various unique suits for its guests. Furthermore, the unique chairs at the venue were meant to mirror the uniqueness of each outfit which, in turn, come in vibrant spring colours.
The Mobilier National’s main building, by the way, is owned by France’s State Department and contains archival furniture pieces from the Régence or Regency period, from Louis XI’s reign, the Art Deco period and more. All of these make for the perfect backdrop for Nichanian’s elegant designs that are peculiarly beautiful, refreshing, and posh.
One of our favourites from the collection is the baby pink jacket with its cool, distinctive zippers and playful stitching as added accents. It was certainly a statement piece for the man of today. The models on the runway were also seen sporting monochrome Hermès scarves tied in the classic French sailor style.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a Hermès collection without the maison’s statement bag – the Birkin. From this spring/summer collection for men, Hermès men’s jumbo canvas Birkin bag definitely made it into our must-have list. Nichanian also introduced a bum bag – using Hermès’ top leather quality, of course. To sum it all up, we’d say that this collection presents the modern man with a royal flair.
