The latest Eleanor and Lee Radziwill collections reinterpret classic and bring remarkable craftmanship
Along with its impeccable autumn/winter 2020 collection, Tory Burch also introduces its bags collection, which has plenty of highlights that has caught our attention. This time around, we present Prestige‘s top two picks from among these new releases, the Eleanor and the latest Lee Radziwill bag collection.
The Eleanor is a classic shoulder bag that marries beautiful, simple construction with bespoke detailing, with each bag taking nine hours to complete. It is crafted in a textural goat skin that is hand-rolled onto a silky suede underlay and patchworked by hand, then finished with hand-painted edging – a special process that gives the bag depth and dimension. For the bag’s chain-strap, its bold, twisted construction comes in both brass and hand-wrapped leather. This twisted rope chain is inspired by jewelry and it’s convertible, so you can wear it doubled or long and also crossbody. Furthermore, the iconic logo of the bag has been scaled up and produced using hand-pouring technique, giving it an artisanal quality.
The Eleanor comes in three different sizes: Mini, small and large, each with its own charm, making them the perfect companions for every modern woman. Their versatility makes it possible for the Eleanor bags to be worn with any kind of outfit, on any occasion. Timeless, artfully structured and well-constructed, the Eleanor bags will make every woman feel empowered to take on the world.
Moving on, we come to the latest release from the Lee Radziwill collection that caught our eyes: the Saddlebag and Double Bag. It is truly a study in elegant, understated design. And it was named after American socialite and style icon Lee Radziwill, a woman Burch always admired for her fearlessly unique style. The Lee Radziwill collection contrasts structure and softness, crafted from a mix of materials that age beautifully over time.
The Double Bag is composed of layers that unfold like the collar of a trench coat. It can be worn opened, semi-buttoned or fully closed. Beautifully crafted in croc-embossed Italian leather and suede, with the brand’s signature lock-and-key hardware, this one is easily becomes your go-to bag for everyday wear. Meanwhile, the new Lee Radziwill Saddlebag is impeccably crafted in leather, with a seventies equestrian feel to it. It is also finished with the signature lock-and-key hardware and an adjustable crossbody strap that allows for multiple carrying options.
Tory Burch’s runway collection itself was inspired by Francesca DiMattio’s sculptures and is therefore quietly romantic, mixing modest silhouettes with power accents. DiMattio’s work imbues the decorative with strength and power, which in turn becomes the essence of the collection. How DiMattio challenges the traditional norms of femininity makes Burch remember the works of Judith Leyster, one of the great Dutch Masters who was nearly forgotten after her death, simply because she was a woman.
The collection reinterprets classic and nostalgic themes: Menswear suiting cut with softer shapes, structural details played against fluid silhouettes, historic references reworked with modern ideas. All of these are epitomized in the grey power suit, silk lace blouse and tall leather boots. DiMattio also designed prints for the collection, based on DiMattio and Burch’s shared appreciation of the history of Turkish, English and French porcelain. But the colors and patterns here are bolder and more exaggerated.
