Fashion is imagined in the studio and created in the atelier, but the streets is where it becomes alive and real, meeting the imperfection of existence, day after day, lit by the unique identity of the wearer.
For Valentino’s spring/summer 2022 collection, creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli further exemplifies the desire to ground fashion in reality. The collection’s tailoring was its strongest element, defined by beautiful cuts, minimal lines and varying volumes. Taffetas, a symbol of couture, is washed, beaten, deprived of any preciousness and turned into jackets, anoraks, oversized shirts, Bermuda shorts, with the play of additions enhanced by contrasting colours. Denim, worn with precious white shirts that are decorated, inlaid with broderie anglaise, embroidered, is another tribute to the maison’s archives.
