1. Jewels that seemed at one with outfits
Attendees of the 74th Annual Golden Globes demonstrated sartorial harmony by choosing jewels that reflected tones or motifs in their gowns. The colourless diamonds in Jessica Chastain’s Piaget Rose necklace seemed to take on a bluish tinge that paired with her Prada dress. Drew Barrymore’s Mrs Winston diamond earrings from Harry Winston were a graphic match for the silver sequins on her Monique Lhuillier sheath. And Billy Bob Thornton ex Laura Dern picked Bulgari earrings with rubellites that looked like a continuation of the pops of magenta and maroon on her floral gown.
2. Statement pieces
Some preferred to wear jewels that stood out in their own right, such as Carly Steel in an unmissable Bulgari High Jewellery Serpenti necklace and Reese Witherspoon in a stellar diamond necklace from the Tiffany Archives. Amy Adams went with a statement bracelet instead, a Cartier High Jewellery piece with a brown tourmaline, which channelled a moody dystopian look along with her Tom Ford gown of black sequins.
3. Kiss It Simple, Sweetheart
Actresses who preferred jewellery that added subtle touches included Monica Belluci in her sole accessory, a Panthère de Cartier necklace, and Lily Collins, who let her elaborate rose-covered Zuhair Murad gown do the talking. Zoe Saldana’s eye-popping ton-sur-ton ensemble from Gucci arguably overpowered her Bulgari High Jewellery Serpenti earrings and even her Sepenti Incantati watch, with its 219 brilliant-cut diamonds, 30 baguette-cut rubellites and a dial snow-set with 116 brilliant-cut diamonds.
