Airyn Tanu and Pierre Png welcomed about 100 guests to Passion Privé’s “Passion for Diamonds” event on January 28 at Plaza Indonesia.
“Just like my wife, I think great jewellery is timeless, special and unique,” smiled Pierre Png. “That’s why I wanted to create a piece that truly represented my feelings and my love for her.”
The Singaporean actor and comedian from Crazy Rich Asians (he played a techpreneur married to a woman from one of Singapore’s richest families) gave Prestige an exclusive interview when he appeared as the guest star at Passion Privé’s “Passion for Diamonds” event on January 28 at Plaza Indonesia. Prestige was Media Partner for the gathering, which was attended by about 100 guests.
Pierre, who celebrated 20 years in the entertainment industry in 2018, talked about his collaboration with Passion Privé and Passion Jewelry founder Airyn Tanu to create an individually crafted Passion Amour ring for his wife, the actress Andrea De Cruz, whose movie appearances include Stories about Love (2000). He also joined the #IamFuschia campaign to celebrate Valentine’s Day, the joys of eternal love and of being one of a kind.
The conversation jumped back to when Pierre and Andrea met for the first time. “We fell crazily in love with each other,” said Pierre. We were passionate about each other and it was reckless, spontaneous.
Sixteen years ago, when we still dating, my wife was told she needed a liver transplant and so she had to look for a donor. When, she couldn’t find one, I decided to volunteer myself. It turned out that we were a match. So I ended up being my own wife’s individual liver donor.”
That experience shaped the way Pierre saw love. “I personally feel and agree with the explanation that love is not a feeling but a decision. When you decide to love someone, you accept them with all their flaws. Things are constantly changing in terms of likes and dislikes. It is also integrated with your own personal character.
“It means that you are allowing this person to come into your life and in a certain way allowing him or her to hurt you. You take this person as they are and you stick together through thick and thin.”
What made Pierre choose Passion Privé for his customized ring? “Because my wife personifies what you can find here. The jewellery is exquisite, the craftsmanship is awesome and I like how everything about it is so unique.”
At this point, Airyn joined the conversation and explained why she set up her company to cater to clients who understand and appreciate the value of one-of-a-kind jewellery. “First, it’s important to understand the client’s character and requirements,” she said. “Then we take into account their physical appearance and their preferences.
“The idea of wearing jewellery is to enhance a person’s aura. It has to be something that suits them. It’s not just about putting something nice on their body. We have very strong design and production teams to create a piece of art that is individually crafted for the client.
“The Passion Amour design consists of several pieces of diamond to form a heart shape. We use carefully sorted and selected white diamonds in our workshop. There is a story behind each design, and each one has a soul.”
Airyn said white diamonds with gold was the perfect choice for Andrea’s ring, and Pierre couldn’t agree more. “I’m fascinated every time I look at it,” he said. “To have an eye for jewellery is one thing, but you also need a very good listening ear to make it personalised. Thankfully, Airyn knew what I wanted and she understood where I was coming from. The design really represents my feelings for Andrea and I was blown away. It’s a true masterpiece.”
