After watching the animated movie Ballerina (voiced by the inimitable Maddie Ziegler and Elle Fanning), we found ourselves tip-toeing in an attempt to move like those little ballerinas.
While dancing ballet is an art that only few can master, the ballerina shoes have been a fashion staple for decades. Amid rise (and fall) of mules, slip-ons and oxford shoes, the ballerina always have a place in a modern woman’s shoe rack.
This season, the elegant ballerina is elevated in Chanel’s spring 2017 ready-to-wear collection. Juxtaposed with the ultra-modern Data Center that is the backdrop of the season’s runway, the ballerina offers something that is practical as it is elegant.
Chanel is no stranger to the ballerina, seeing how Coco Chanel made it one of her staples. Karl Lagerfeld first brought the ballerina to the runway on the spring 1984. The now-iconic ballerina with black toe cap was worn by none other than Inès de la Fressange.
The spring 2017 ballerina from Chanel is a silver PVC pair with a black gros-grain toe. It also comes in fuchsia-burgundy, navy black and powder pink in quilted leather. The idea is to have a pair that accompanies you literally everywhere, whatever the situation.
