The Italian watchmaker expands the portfolio of its cult collection with an authentic expression of the Luminor Marina
The well-known Luminor Marina collection is a contemporary manifestation of landmark elements from Panerai’s history. For one, Luminor is the name of both a luminescent substance based on tritium – which has the property of self-powered luminescence developed by the brand – and a model that rose to prominence in the early 1950s as a result of its diving utility and connection to the brand’s most notable military achievements.
Fast forward to the present, Panerai once again explores original directions in the field of creativity by rewriting the aesthetic vocabulary of the emblematic model which, more than any other, embodies the brand’s unmistakable legendary image.
First and foremost, the Luminor Marina 44mm PAM01313 marks the umpteenth step in a continuous process of development. It is the result of advanced innovation and long-standing tradition, recalling the codes of a unique aesthetic and ready today, as always, to rank itself as an unquestionable milestone of Italian design.
Appearance wise, this model is highlighted by the originality of the design of the dial, with its legendary sandwich construction that has given the Luminor collection its distinctive identity. As a distinctive sign of the Panerai DNA, this highly recognized configuration is now presented in blue, with a satiné soleil finish for the model fitted with the alligator strap.
Moreover, this characteristic graphic expression is further amplified by the natural reaction at the base of the fluorescent compound called to revive it. In particular, it has been further perfected and enhanced by the use of a high-performance Super-LumiNova, which has been selected by the Panerai Laboratorio di Idee. This time around, it is characterized by the neon green of its retro luminescence – an unvarying evocative colour returning to the origins of the brand.
Beneath the dial, the intricate mechanics of the Luminor Marina PAM01313 exhibits the fundamental characteristics of authenticity, reliability and practicality. In short, these are the qualities that define the Caliber P.9010, an automatic movement designed and crafted by the Panerai Manufacture in Neuchâtel.
Measuring just 6mm thick, it has a power reserve of three days provided by a twin spring barrel and it also has the distinctive practical function for quickly setting the hour hand, which can be moved in steps of one-hour forwards or backwards. The date would then automatically adjust accordingly.
Moving on, in terms of finish, the Luminor Marina PAM01313 is completed with an alligator leather strap fitted with a brushed steel buckle. Aside to that, a second technical strap in rubber completes the equipment of the series, with a special tool for changing it and a screwdriver for removing the clasp.
All in all, as a natural successor to the historic diver’s watch conceived in the early 1950s, the Luminor Marina 44mm PAM01313 successfully capitalizes on the legacy of a renowned model to exhibit a new, authentic expression of Italian genius and creativity.
