What is it that drives the modern woman? Imagination, for one; then there’s curiosity and the need to challenge existing preconceptions and outdated definitions of what it means to be a woman. For almost two decades, Richard Mille has been crafting exceptional timepieces for women as it constantly searches for technical solutions that perfectly combine extreme watchmaking with sublime expressions of beauty and elegance. This underlying idea of creativity fused with feminine elegance is also embodied by Richard Mille’s friends of the brand lineup.
“What I like about Richard Mille is the idea of bringing together the friends of the brand, it’s like a universal team – while some women are in sports, there are artists and actresses as well,” says Yuliya Levchenko, Olympic medallist for the high jump and member of the Richard Mille family. “I love this vision – it’s almost as if I’ve joined a new and extremely talented family.”
This family also includes internationally renowned actress and UN Goodwill Ambassador Michelle Yeoh as well as Australian actress and producer Margot Robbie known for her roles – both in front of and behind the camera – in
famous Hollywood hits such as Martin Scorsese’s “The Wolf of Wall Street” and the “Suicide Squad” movies in the DC Extended Universe. “I am really excited to join the Richard Mille family,” she says. “I have always admired the brand’s artistry and innovation.”
Today, Richard Mille’s artistry and innovation in the realm of ladies’ watches is perhaps best exemplified by the freedom of choice it offers discerning women looking for a timepiece that would best reflect their personalities. The RM 71-01 Automatic Tourbillon Talisman collection, for instance, is designed with ten different dials and is available in various combinations of stone settings and colours—on top of featuring the brand’s very first automatic tourbillon movement.
And now, the storied watchmaker has introduced two more innovative ways of using extraordinary materials…
Carbon on Carbon
Carbon TPT is a signature material of Richard Mille—of its men’s collection, to be exact. For sure, the material is not only extremely durable but also imparts a uniquely powerful appearance to a watch. In a feat of exceptional craftsmanship and unsurpassed elegance, Richard Mille has shown the feminine side of the composite material through the RM 07-01 and RM 037 which boast gem-set Carbon TPT.
First of all, unlike gold which is malleable enough to be worked on directly with hand tools, Carbon TPT is extremely hard and resistant. Therefore, setting gemstones in this material necessitated the creation of special CNC machines for milling equipped with diamond tools required to perform the mitraillage involved in a pavé setting.
More importantly, however, the sparkle of clear diamonds and the matt carbon contour that adorn both of these automatic timepieces create a striking contrast amplified each time the wearer moves her wrist. With this interplay of shade and radiance, the RM 07-01 and RM 037 become statement pieces radiating both confidence and grace.
Carbon on the Wrist
Richard Mille has always paid extra attention to the straps or bracelets of its watches. From the way a strap harmoniously continues the lines of a case to how a bracelet provides resistance and comfort at all times, the way a watch is fastened to your wrist has always been a coherent part of Richard Mille’s watchmaking philosophy.
Beautifully encapsulating all of these points is the RM 07-01 Ladies’ in Carbon TPT watch which sees the debut of a new bracelet also crafted in Carbon TPT. This 200-part metal bracelet gracefully extends the tonneau shape of the case all around the wrist. At the same time, it combines the extreme rigidity of Carbon TPT with an astounding degree of suppleness thanks to Richard Mille’s mastery of micromechanical construction.
Lightweight, sporty and elegant, the RM 07-01 Ladies’ in Carbon TPT combines feminine charm and an underlying fortitude that would fit any modern, active lady with an eye for character.
