Anyone visiting the island of Bali, particularly Ubud, should give The Purist Villas & Spa, Ubud, some serious consideration as it offers everything a traveller could want.
There’s something about Bali that is – and will always be – so alluring. The island of the gods never fails to captivate people’s hearts, whether it’s because of the warmth of its inhabitants, the unusually-vibrant surroundings, or the beautiful beaches. Bali, arguably the most sought-after vacation destination in the world, offers truly distinctive and exciting experiences.
Not too long ago, Prestige Indonesia went to the island and headed to Ubud, which is regarded as Bali’s centre of culture and spirituality. It is also a tranquil haven that’s perfect for rest and healing. We picked the town because it is arguably the ideal location for a luxurious break, far from the bustle of the southern beaches. Perhaps more importantly, it offers access to the enchanted Balinese way of life that can seem so distant across the more popular tourist destinations.
Regardless of the duration of your stay or the purpose of your trip, Ubud can be the ideal place to say, none the least thanks to the profusion of elaborate and historic temples, lush green rice paddies, and untamed jungles. Add to those the magnificent and towering Mount Agung as a backdrop and a wealth of culinary hotspots along with a distinct and dynamic culture, and it’s pretty much a given that Ubud is worth a visit.
A Delightful Place
On this occasion, Prestige Indonesia was welcomed at The Purist Villas & Spa, Ubud, which is a boutique resort focused on relaxation located just behind the rustic Balinese village of Kutuh Kaje, where you can still experience all aspects of traditional rural life, including daily offerings, local dance performances, and music.
Situated along the verdant-green and gently sloping bank of the Tawar river, the boutique resort is just a 1.5-kilometer walk from the center of Ubud. The walk to the villas, by the way, will involve stunning views of the rice fields, the traditional rituals, and the cultural activities of the local Balinese people.
Comprised of 18 uniquely styled and tastefully appointed luxury villas, The Purist Villas offers a perfectly designed contemporary atmosphere and deep tranquillity. The boutique resort is nestled within natural Balinese surroundings, giving every spot at the venue a perfect background.
I checked into one of the luxury villas called Limasan Residence, which boasts a superb view of the vast green landscape. The room was designed within an ancient Javanese building with teak walls that have been fully restored. Some parts of the walls have been replaced by large panels of glass. Interestingly, the villa is completely secluded from the outside world by bamboo groves, while one bedroom features a half open-plan, leading to a round granite bath for two, while a second bedroom has twin beds and its own bathroom.
A water feature with koi fish, a private pool, and a massage bed further completed the sense of ultimate luxury in what is a uniquely-styled residence. In a nutshell, it was the ideal spot to simply pause for a moment and truly take a grasp of the serene surroundings in order to break from everything that’s weighing on your shoulders.
As a whole, what makes The Purist Villas & Spa, Ubud different is that this luxury resort embodies the ancient Hindu beliefs of balance, harmony, and purity of spirit. At the same time, the owner of the resort, Yvonne Hulst and Alberto Cortes, have afforded a deep sense of respect for the natural environment. Yvonne and Alberto worked closely with architect Joost van Grieken to create a truly spectacular experience: a tasteful, beautiful Bali retreat, designed in harmony with its landscape.
“Our wish is to connect our guests with Bali’s many spiritual and artistic traditions. That’s why we’ve furnished The Purist Villas with only the most beautiful and authentic artifacts that we’ve slowly accumulated on our travels among the Indonesian islands,” explains Alberto Cortes.
Moving on to indulgences for the palate, anchoring the tempting food and beverage experiences at the resort is Café Balisimo, an all-day dining restaurant offering a wide selection of local and international favourites. The vibrant restaurant overlooks the lush jungle valley. During the day, this spectacular view makes you feel as if you are sitting on the edge at the world. It’s basically the perfect spot for a long afternoon luncheon. Moreover, in the evenings, Café Balisimo transforms into an elegant yet relaxed venue, with romantic table settings underneath the sky – with thousands of stars if you’re lucky.
On to the actual food on offer, Café Balisimo presents a range of seasonal menus based on nutritious, minimally processed ingredients, and the best available fresh products. Outside of meal times, you can enjoy the restaurant’s healthy tapas – Balinese and Asian – or simply come in for cocktails at the main pool outdoor lounge. “At Café Balisimo and the Purist villas, we care deeply about the quality and sustainability of the food we serve and the welfare of the people who produce it,” shares Alberto Cortes.
Beyond its culinary centre, the Purist Villas & Spa’s architecture embodies the best aesthetic traditions of the Indonesian islands as well as Bali itself. Together with the resort’s breath-taking natural surroundings, it offers visitors opulence, cosiness, and deep respect for the natural environment. On top of that, each villa in the resort has its own specialty. And since comfort is a top priority as well, it features every amenity you could need for overnight stays, relaxing getaways, and family vacations.
And speaking of comfort, guests looking for total relaxation can try The Purist Spa wellness centre which offers treatments including a selection of signature massages featuring Southeast Asia’s most trusted techniques, provided by the spa’s highly trained personnel. For guests looking for adventure in the great outdoors, the resort offers plenty of activities, from tours and trekking, rafting and mountain cycling, climbing quads, adventure elephant safari, yoga or dancing classes, cooking classes, and even batik painting classes. Romantic and intimate, this is also the perfect place for a honeymoon in Bali.
So, all things considered, The Purist Villas & Spa, Ubud does indeed offer everything a traveller could want.
