A trio of unique and experiential dining experiences in Bali that perfectly showcase the island’s top culinary talents
The famed island of the gods has so much more to offer than tourist attractions. If there’s one single element that really connects people from around the world with Bali, it is arguably the dining experience. As the saying goes, the way into someone’s heart is through one’s stomach. Indonesia has an abundance of unique culinary ingredients and creativity in dining is something you can look forward to when you visit Bali. These two elements often combine to create spectacular culinary experiences that will linger in one’s memory long after leaving the island.
With that in mind, we have a few remarkable restaurants in mind that are definitely worth a visit whenever you’re in Bali. And for this particular list, we’ve chosen signature restaurants at five-star properties that are helmed by experienced and talented chefs. These are places where you can expect great all-encompassing experiences, from great service, stunning ambience and – of course – amazing food.
Kayuputi at The St. Regis Bali Resort
Situated on the upscale area of Nusa Dua, The St. Regis Bali Resort is an all-suites and villa resort with an elegant Balinese ambiance. Here you can enjoy panoramic views of the Indian Ocean, white sandy beaches, the sound of ocean waves, gentle ocean breeze and the chance to dip your feet in a crystal blue salt water lagoon. Now, the resort’s Kayuputi Restaurant is somewhat of an icon in the island. And rightly so as the restaurant offers a modern haute cuisine interpretation of Asian food that is nothing short of masterful. Executive Chef Agung Gede approaches the menu of Kayuputi by integrating Asian flavours with a classic Western flair. From Australian Wagyu beef, fresh seafood from Indonesian waters and imported specialties such as oysters and Prunier caviar – which varies from season to season –expect nothing but excellence. If you are on a plant-based diet, Chef Agung Gede also has prepared vegetarian selections featuring a variety of organic produce.
La Spiaggia at Bvlgari Resort Bali
One of the most romantic, luxurious resorts on the island, Bvlgari Resort Bali sits on a clifftop that’s nearly 150 meters above sea level on the southern tip of Bali. Seamlessly blending Italian design and traditional Balinese elements, the resort presents a clearly unique staying experience. La Spiaggia, one of its signature restaurants, is usually reserved for in-residence guests only. The beachside restaurant offers pavilion-like setting, beneath a bamboo-clad balé with sweeping views of the ocean. Stefano Attardi is the man behind the extensive Mediterranean menu at La Spiaggia. Recently, Bvlgari Resort Bali has introduced An Exclusive Day Experience at La Spiaggia, which enables non-residents to, well, experience a day of exclusive dining at the restaurant. The package includes a private four-course lunch crafted by Executive Chef Stefano Attardi featuring Mediterranean-inspired seafood creations and wine pairings. As the proverbial cherry on top, this special programme also gives you full-access to the resort’s beach and pool facilities.
The Beach Grill at The Ritz-Carlton, Bali
The Ritz-Carlton, Bali is a luxurious beachside resort with tranquil views over the blue waters of the Indian Ocean. Its design integrates the surrounding natural environment and Balinese elements with a tropical resort ambiance that permeates the entire property. The Beach Grill is one of the hotel’s signature restaurants and is located just a step away from The Ritz-Carlton, Bali’s private beach. The Beach Grill offers freshly-caught seafood and grilled specialties in a casual beachfront setting. Diners can pick between indoor and outdoor seating, whether for lunch or dinner. The restaurant is a particularly perfect setting for romantic dinners after sunset with candle-lit tables and – if you are celebrating a special occasion – there’s a private beachfront for two available to reserve. There’s also an option to dine at the beachfront gazebo under the night sky. Of course, Beach Grill’s set menus have been specially curated to enhance any intimate dining experience. Crowd favourites include the scallops and lobster linguine, rack of lamb and Wagyu striploin.
