Fans of Bangkok’s high-flying rooftop bar scene have much to be excited about this July, as the city welcomes yet another contender to its skies. Situated on the 76th and 77th floors of Sathorn’s iconic King Power Mahanakhon, the Mahanakhon Bangkok SkyBar offers front-row views of the riverside, and is now the highest restaurant and bar in Thailand.
Step into the upscale brasserie and you almost forget you’re anywhere near Sathorn, as tasteful interiors — by none other than Tristan Auer of Wilson Associates’ — offer a rare respite from the city’s chaotic hub-bub. Make no mistake though, you’re definitely at the center of it all, with Chong Nonsi BTS just a skywalk’s distance away. A wooden paneled entrance leads you into a luxurious dining space and outdoor terrace, which sees an effortless marriage of French elegance and Thai-inspired patterns.
Modern and refined, the venue’s personality shines through trinkets and treasures that fill the area — a bull head sculpture tells tales of an adventurous traveller, while French antique books, Japanese ceramic pottery, and hand-painted vases add a nice touch of character.
While interiors are all about modern styles and sophisticated flair, the outdoor terrace looks somewhat like a jungle in the skies, offering a breezy escape for stressed city executives looking to unwind with good drinks and great vibes.
Looks aside, this skyline gem serves up a selection of sophisticated Western and Asian fare, along with signature creations by executive chef Joshua Cameron — formerly of New York’s Eleven Madison Park. The menu is, of course, accompanied by an impressive selection of cocktails and over 100 curated wines. If the variety has you intrigued, get this — there’s also an emphasis on natural wines, making this venue a must for those looking to get on this budding trend.
Mahanakhon Bangkok SkyBar is open everyday for dinner and drinks, from 5pm-1am. To make reservations or find out more, call 0 2677 8722, or visit mahanakhonbangkokskybar.com.
