Four Seasons Hotel Jakarta has finally debuted its fourth and most prestigious eatery, Alto Restaurant & Bar. It was worth the wait. Alto is located on the 20th floor of the building, and comes complete with a terrace and views of the city below that are sure to impress any guest from out of town.
Designed, like the rest of the hotel, by New York-based interiors phenomenon Alexandra Champalimaud, the new, 80-seater Italian restaurant is washed in deep tones of red and soft ochre, complemented by polished woods. As you enter it, the room conveys an elegant, grand feeling, and you feel welcome. The kitchen is led by Executive Chef Marco Riva. The Italian-born chef considers his profession is be “like an artist”. He has been in the international hotel industry for more than a decade. His resume lists stints at The Ritz- Carlton Osaka, Shangri-La Hotel Bangkok and the extremely exclusive Montauk Yacht Club in New York.
“Italian food is about family and I create my recipes based on that belief,” says Chef Riva. “I believe that traditional dishes are best created with the best ingredients. At Alto, for example, we are serving authentic mozzarella di Bufala, prosciutto di Parma from the best part of the ham and best-quality Tasmanian mussels in our mussels marinara.”
Alto’s antipasti include caprese campana (Rp 235,000++), which consists of burrata cheese, balsamic caviar asparagus and assorted cherry tomatoes. As for the mains, the highlights include a Milanese speciality of cross-cut veal shanks braised ossobuco Lombardo (Rp 450,000++). In Alto, they are serving it with saffron risotto and garlic bread. Also, an indulgence for seafood lovers – spaghetti all’aragosta (Rp 365,000++), classic spaghetti serving with lobster and spicy tomato sauce. All dishes can be paired with a glass of wine as the restaurant has a wide range collection of white/red wine.
To end the dining experience in a sweet way, there is profumo di Sicilia (Rp 105,000++). First impression of this dessert is a beautiful yet intriguing presentation. It’s basically lemon mousse serves with almond sponge, meringue and candied basil. But the unique point is the way they designed the meringue like a chalk. When it comes to the mouth, the tangy lemon mousse is perfectly balanced with the sweet meringue.
At the moment, Alto only available for dinner. For people who want to have a private dinner with family, friends or colleagues, Alto has one private dining room for 10 people and semi-private dining room for 20 people. One of the most interesting attractions in Alto is its outdoor terrace. In this area, guests can savour authentic Italian food while drinking a glass of wine with city lights view before eyes.
