It is never a bad time to invest in whisky, and the best way to get started as a collector is to be on the constant lookout for new limited-edition releases. You see them, then you snag them, before someone else does. It is usually wise to buy two: one to drink, and one to hold.
A good place to start would be something from The Macallan. After all, if it is an investment that you’re looking at, you can hardly go wrong with a well-respected distillery like them. And if you’re looking for something rich and full-bodied, here’s something right up your alley: the new Classic Cut, an assertive release that shows the full potential of The Macallan.
As a no-age-statement (not that it really matters) aged in oloroso sherry-seasoned European and American oak, the nose comes sweet of vanilla and ginger, whereas the palate’s hit with caramel, orange zest, and nutmeg. Add a smidge of water – it’s ABV 58.4 per cent, mind you – and you’ll see how the flavours open up, becoming more complex and even more enjoyable.
It’s a shame that this edition will only be available in limited quantity, but not to worry. Once 2019 comes, a different kind of Classic Cut will be released. We’re not sure which you’d like better, but the more the merrier, at least when it comes to good whisky.
