On the pristine shores of Switzerland’s Lac Leman on the Swiss Riviera, Clinique La Prairie was founded with a single purpose: to offer a path to rejuvenation.
The clinic’s former head doctor, Dr Paul Niehans, was convinced that science was the key to unlocking the secrets of eternal youth. He made a breakthrough in 1931 by developing cellular therapy, treating a woman who experts agreed would not survive her illness. Convinced that cellular replacement would help, he administered the groundbreaking treatment and the patient recovered and lived for another 40 years. Encouraged by his success, Dr Niehans returned to Clinique La Prairie and began administering cellular therapy to clients.
Visiting in the strictest confidence, world leaders and artists including Charles de Gaulle, Sir Winston Churchill, Marlene Dietrich, Greta Garbo, Marilyn Monroe, Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque all spent time in this pristine sanctuary of rejuvenation. In 1953, Dr Niehans was summoned to Rome to the bedside of the dying Pope Pius XII. After receiving a course of cellular therapy, the Pope recovered, and in gratitude, granted the doctor membership to the Papal Academy of Sciences.
Taking inspiration from the clinic La Prairie created its Exclusive Cellular Complex, its age-defying, life-infusing science signature. A closely-held secret for nearly four decades, this proprietary complex has been the basis of almost every La Prairie skincare product since the brand launched its first product – its groundbreaking Cellular Eye Contour Cream – in 1978.
Based on the science of cellular therapy, La Prairie continues to develop ground-breaking formulations using the most precious, sumptuous ingredients – rich caviar to lift and firm skin, rare platinum to support cellular function and opulent gold for an incandescent glow.
A veritable wonder of biotechnological engineering, the Exclusive Cellular Complex is a powerful rejuvenating potion that has enabled La Prairie’s quest for timeless beauty to become a promise – the promise of time.
