Let’s be honest, at the rate dining establishment are stacking up on your shores, it’s only fair to say we should use more gyms. But hey, we’re not complaining since the increasing onslaught of many fitness trends dares to be remotely different. We’re especially loving how the workouts take us away from the reality that we’re actually exercising. Heck, if we’re burning the same amount of calories, we might as well have some fun while we’re at it.
Just last month, we were invited to check out the latest integrated fitness concept in Kuala Lumpur – FlyProject. Here are our thoughts:

Focuses on building group fitness projects that will push you towards your fitness goals, FlyProject is all about motivating, action pack and dynamic full-body workouts combined with incredibly high energy music, cutting edge sound and lighting systems motivated by inspirational fitness trainers. Its hero regime is FlyCycle, which was started in June 2016.
This workout has all the makings of a stimulating club night, only you’re pedalling fast on a stationary bike. And mind you, this is not a cycling class. On the contrary, what sets it apart from the spin classes is its deliberate focus on music and community.
Each class at FlyProject is orchestrated to the beat of blood-pumping tunes, expertly designed sequences, illuminating neon strobes lights, and last but not least, an empowering instructor to lead you in an immersive mash-up of climbs, sprints, weights, intervals, choreographed moves and combinations that will strengthen not just your body, but your mind.

Getting to know the studios
Launched in January 2018, Fly Project presented its 2 newest concept studios, namely FlyFight and FlyLab, alongside FlyCycle. Sessions here are definitely intense – participants alternate between the combination of lifting weights, and a number of dynamic HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) exercises. The contemporary combination is undoubtedly engaging, fresh and one that’s easy to catch on.
FlyLab: A studio oasis where calm and control meet strength and movement. Here, it offers a dynamic range of workouts ranging from high to low intensity, function and flexibility. This is definitely the space to strengthen, align, challenge and inspire your fitness journey.
FlyFight: Equipped with 40 aqua punching bags, the class incorporates modern day methods of shadow boxing, heavy bag work, basic boxing techniques and combinations – all with rhythm. Hands down, this is one of the best overall body conditioning methods of training by burning calories, improving muscle tone, enhancing cardiovascular endurance, increasing coordination skills while boosting self-confidence and power.
What’s more, the regimes are always designed to be different and aren’t disclosed to members until the class officially starts. Apart from that, you’ll also find its healthy nutrient dense and delicious smoothie bar, FlyFuel, serving you nutrient pack recipes perfect for your pre and post workout.

What we loved about the classes
Definitely the energy and the direction of all the instructors’ good vibes. Their uplifting energy didn’t make us feel nervous or new to the class. Instead, they were infectious to liven up the room and boost our confidence levels. The change in lights also conditioned our body to alternate between more intense and cool-down routines without any difficulty at all. Lastly, you can’t go wrong with heart-pumping tunes while exercising.
What to bring
Depending on the classes, each person will be provided with the necessary equipment’s e.g. house gloves, wraps, weights, mats, bands etc that would be essential to their workout.
Good to know
Either you are a novice boxer or have two left feet, you can still kick ass in the classes. Don’t worry, we can testify to that. The ultimate goal is getting a good workout clocked in, and not competing in a dance-off.
