There’s no place like home, and OhanaJo feels just like that. To those well acquainted with Malaysian personality Jojo Struys, you’ll know OhanaJo as her baby; a safe space where everyone can journey inward and find tools to cope with their daily stresses. The studio holds yoga classes, and are particularly known for the sound bath sessions.
Sound healing is realised here, and you’re reminded to come without expectations but with an open mind. There’s science to back it up; these sound vibrations work on a cellular level and helps to release endorphins that act as natural painkillers. Its benefits are many, from helping to ease tension in stiff joints and bad backs to releasing emotional blocks. Or as many people experience, just a really good power nap.
Sure, the studio’s presence is old news dating back to its genesis in 2017. But as of July, OhanaJo has just opened its second outlet in a brand new corner lot centre called Future of Wellness (FoW) in Kota Damansara. In fact, this is the largest sound healing venue in Malaysia. Future of Wellness is designed to be a total top-to-toe, skin-to-soul centre for wellbeing. Other than OhanaJo, it also houses Jari Jari Spa, Bondahaven, wax centre Buluu, Holistic Hair Care, acupuncture at 1TCM, and even the co-working space Workwell.
With many of OhanaJo’s classes, movement and stillness are combined, creating a hour-long experience of healing through meditation and asanas (poses held in yoga). Some classes even extend to guided visualisations and quiet time to journal thoughts and emotions that arise — and when your mind has that quiet to cling to, it gets noisy with emotions that quickly rise to the surface. Classes usually have specific themes, with some that feel like they hit you right in the core.
