The star of 2018 summer blockbuster Crazy Rich Asians, Fiona Xie is a bona fide A-lister with legions of fans. Find out why this silver-screen siren adores the theatre, and where she uncovers her inspiration as she jets around the globe.
As an award-winning actress, where do you find your inspiration?
Inspiration exists everywhere, if we open our hearts and mind to be malleable. I was so blessed to be able to be in the film Crazy Rich Asians which has been phenomenal and has made history in paving the way for Asians in Hollywood – and I’m looking forward to developing the other two books from the trilogy into celluloid dreams! I love the arts; I actually have a business where I curate and procure art for friends and family, so I’m often at art fairs getting inspired by the greats of the art world.
What does true luxury mean to you?
Freedom and enlightenment. It’s the freedom to chase your dreams and have new experiences; to literally travel the world; to find your purpose and passions in life; to achieve balance in body and mind, while making the world a better place.
Live entertainment plays an important role on many cruising experiences. Do you consider this type of entertainment relevant for today?
The way in which entertainment is presented absolutely moves with the times – we are now in a digital era, so it’s natural that movies, series and filmmaking are more shaped in that direction. But storytelling, theatre, plays and art will always be instrumental in preserving our heritage and shaping our culture and future. When I go to the theatre, it’s the shared atmosphere that connects you to other people, and being in a creative space without distraction for just a couple of hours that makes all the difference. The whole theatrical process with lights, a stage, a hushed audience hanging onto the actors every word… it’s such a unique way of celebrating the arts.

Tell us about your love of travel.
The Wanderlust is real! I was just in Italy and am trying to plan for a trip to Greece next. I love exploring new places, all over the globe.
No doubt you often use your travels as a way to mark special occasions. How would you feel about sharing those celebrations on a luxury cruise?
Celebrating occasions with friends and family is so important, and being able to share that time together on a cruise would be such a unique way to mark those moments. I always think that being on the ocean is a magical experience, and it’s always so special and freeing to try something different while you travel, so taking a weekend on the ocean to celebrate together would create memories you couldn’t make anywhere else. A cruise vacation is great because it has incredible service, restaurants and entertainment all within reach, you’d have the luxuries that make things extra special without hassle.

What would you most look forward to on your first luxury cruise holiday?
Being around water has always had a special meaning to me, just the feeling of being away from the world, among nature and an incredible expanse of ocean. Sharing that time with my loved ones would make it so special, it would give the gift of time together without sacrificing those luxuries you want from your vacation – personal service, private space, exclusive access and of course, great food.
How did you find your passion for acting; what has led you to strive for your goals?
I’ve always been an imaginative child and it seemed like a natural progression when I was spotted at the tender age of 15. I am humbled and grateful that it’s allowed me to dive deep into the empathic wells of my being. I have been able to live vicariously through many different scripts and breathe life into these characters and impact the lives of our audience. Watching something and seeing something resonate within you and making people feel something has always been the power of media. I am beyond blessed, and learning to harness that is a constant evolution and revolution.
Who inspires you and what feeds your ambition for success?
Ultimately, no matter what material success there might be, kindness and love really does trump all. Our intrinsic need to love and be loved, to be a good human-being and to support each other with the right moral compass is paramount to me. I really hope that everyone will practice mindfulness for a better tomorrow.
