This year’s red carpet at Prestige KL Ball was packed with picture-perfect twosomes that had guests doing a double take with their exquisite ensembles. And we can’t think of a better match made in heaven than Izrin Ismail and Marcus Mikhail Low. The winners of this year’s Best Dressed Couple award reveal their top tips on how to always look one’s best with your loved one by your side.
How far in advance did you and your husband start preparing for this year’s KL Ball?
Well, I was eyeing on the special liquid fabric since March knowing that I would save it for the ball, but only managed to get the fabric in early October. At the time, I was already thinking of a design for the fabric, but things just got so busy at work and at my atelier, that the team could only manage to get it done the day before the ball! So, no matter how early I “plan” to get it done, our customers’ orders always come first. As for Marcus, he had his suit done at Bespoked last year and coincidentally enough had a matching pocket square in the same shade. We matched in a very subtle way.
How did you go about picking the perfect outfit for your ensemble?
I was contemplating between designs but decided to go with something simple as the fabric was already outstanding on its own and I wanted that to be the main highlight. Besides, I just gave birth not too long ago, and I’m still carrying some baby-weight. So, I thought the ballgown silhouette would hide my post-baby pouch. I also recently bought Cult Gaia’s pearl bag that is a true objects d’ art piece, and added the statement multicolour ear-cuff from APM Monaco to complete my look.
Would you mind sharing with us the brands that you wore that night?
I wore a dress by INNAI RED which I matched with an evening bag by Cult Gaia; jewellery by APM Monaco, and heels by Christian Louboutin. As for Marcus, his suit was by Bespoked which he paired with a necktie by Dior Homme and shoes by Prada.
On the day of the event, how early did you start getting ready?
I prepped my skin with Dr. Jart’s face mask in the morning. My makeup and hair was done as early as 3.30pm by Syed Faizal, followed by my nails at 5pm as I waited for my dress to be ready which was at around 6.45pm. I then headed back for a quick body rinse, quickly dressed up and was at the event by 8pm. Marcus, on the other hand, was already ready and waiting for me by 7pm. Haha.
If you had to choose just one favourite thing from your look that night, what would it be and why?
I would say my liquid dress. It was a conversational piece. Many stopped to compliment me that night and felt the fabric.
Lastly, how did it feel when you heard your names being called out to receive this award?
I was just about to step out of the ballroom before they asked me to return to my seat; they also got my husband to be seated too. I remember thinking to myself, “If I’m getting best dressed, why was Marcus also being asked to stay in his seat?” Then his name was called, I was just so shocked that I didn’t even hear what category it was for. I just remembered looking at him and going “Oh wow!” Only after my name was called that it became clear we had won the Best Dressed Couple category. We were beaming away in surprise. Pleasant surprise.
