If you like: The soundtrack to Crazy Rich Asians

What’s going on: Chinese 70s pop is making a comeback with a mix of English classics and Western broadway. The bubbly duo that is Shangri-La (not to be confused with the hotel chain) will be putting on a show at KL’s favourite jazz hunt. Made up of Yuii Chan and Will Teh, get introduced to their self-invented genre called ‘nu ol’ school — a fancy way to spell new old school.

If you like: Sake (and lots of it)

What’s going on: Can you say ‘kanpai’? Nomi Tomorrow Sake House is organising the first ever sake festival in our city to celebrate World Sake Day. Over 30 sake labels from 11 craft breweries like Masumi, Bijofu, Kirinzan and Dassai will be served at the event. Apart from just drinking the sake, you can also learn about how it’s made.

Event details: October 13 from 4-11pm at The Gasket Alley

If you like: appreciating good art

What’s going on: It’s the longest-running international art fair in Southeast Asia. The fair will feature 65 reputable art galleries from 22 countries, exhibiting some 1,500 pieces of artwork. This year is going to be even bigger and better with the unveiling of a curated 1+9 South East Asia Special Exhibition Area (SEA).

Event details: 12-14 October from 11am-8pm (7pm on the 14th) at Matrade Exhibition & Convention Centre

What’s going on: The 6L crystal decanter of the one-of-a-kind Louis XIII Mathusalem has premiered in Malaysia, and only for the month of October will you get to see it up close and personal. KL is the first city on the Southeast Asia tour for this fancy drink, which is worth about half a million ringgit.

Event details: All month long at Level 3, Pavilion KL

If you like: Wine, more than sake

What’s going on: Red or white? The good folks at Straits Wine Company is bringing 16 top producers from around the world, featuring about 55 unique labels of good, good wine. Expect the usual regions to impress: France, Italy, New Zealand and Australia. And you can get schooled on the art of wine at the masterclass.
