Thrust into the business when her husband was killed in a 2005 helicopter crash, India’s richest woman focuses on health, employment and education initiatives and facilities, including the Vidya Devi Jindal School, a residential school for girls. As the company expands, the 64-year-old has also continued with the tradition of building a school and a hospital alongside any new factory.
