Edwin Koh’s versatility and ability to adapt has led him to dabble in numerous industries including technology, food and beverage, property and events. The serial entrepreneur who is always on the look-out for new opportunities has been largely responsible for co-founding popular modern Australian café Breakfast Thieves, replicating its success over here in Kuala Lumpur.
“I’ve ventured into three tech start-ups, in which two had failed and one I managed to exit. I’ve learnt that the foundation (company structure, working partners, funding, initial team) of the start-up needs to be strong and transparent for it to have any chance to succeed,” Edwin shares of his previous experiences in entrepreneurship.
When Edwin first moved back to Malaysia from Australia in 2013, he joined the family’s property development firm, Distinctive Group, and was involved in multiple new development projects based in Johor valued at approximately RM3 billion. He concurrently holds the position as director and chief financial officer at the Livescape Group, an events company synonymous with It’s The Ship, Asia’s largest festival at sea.
“Time management and prioritisation is important for me when I am juggling between the two companies,” says the budding entrepreneur who abides by the work hard, play hard philosophy. His latest F&B venture Snitch by the Thieves which opened earlier this year at The Gardens Mall has also been keeping him busy. “We just opened in April this year so there is still plenty of room for improvement.”
