Though Geraldine Dreiser never intended to join the travel industry, a stint at an airline and subsequently a post at a travel concierge for a credit card company spurred her to switch careers. “Knowing that the work I do impacts the most special time in people’s lives, whether they are travelling for a family holiday, celebrating anniversaries, birthdays or simply just to feed their wanderlust. We have a hand in crafting those treasured moments for them,” says the vice president of marketing at YTL Hotels who has a background in biotech.

As a hotelier, Geraldine notes how luxury travel has evolved today, as unique experiences are now being sought after by travellers. “When we speak about luxury travel, we mean merging the stay with the surroundings, localising the experience as much as possible by offering travellers the city’s authentic experiences – the property being the core centre of the cultural immersion. It’s about bridging the gap by leveraging on the culture and history of the locale we are in, and even of the property itself.”

Apart from travel, she names being a mother and completing two half Ironman triathlons as her proudest achievements to date. Her ideal getaway naturally involves family time with her children, either skiing down the slopes of Niseko Village or playing on the sand at a beach resort. “Taking my children out of their comfort zone is an opportunity to teach them about the world, nature and the importance of conserving the environment. When they are older, I hope to teach them about the heritage and history of a destination.”
