For many, work-life balance has become something to strive for but Jack Chan believes in work-life integration. Trading a career in investment banking for the start-up life, the co-founder of Dojo abides by that philosophy closely as Dojo incorporates the essential needs of our daily lives into the work space. “As a start-up, it is hard for entrepreneurs like ourselves to achieve work-life balance because of the sheer amount of hours we put into work. So much of your life is put into building your business that you have to integrate work as part of your life and vice versa,” says Jack who elaborates that the key is to promote a method where entrepreneurs can learn to take breaks effectively.
This philosophy is also embodied by employees or rather brand ambassadors of Dojo as Jack ensures that everyone in the team shares the same vision and their needs are met. “If they do not live and breathe work-life integration, it is impossible for us to extend this philosophy to our members.
I’m also a firm believer in the phrase – if you take care of your employees, they will take care of your customers,” says Jack who also cites that having a team that is fully on- board with Dojo’s mission is their biggest challenge so far. As the KL Chapter Lead for Tech in Asia, the budding entrepreneur harbours a vision for Dojo to be synonymous with change. “Possibilities are everywhere and more often than not change can happen if our mind is open enough to see them.”
