As chief operating officer of PDG Property, Jojo Gwee is well placed to inject a dose of women friendliness in the workplace of an industry often construed as male dominant. With both parents being property developers and her father being Real Estate & Housing Developers’ Association (REHDA) Malacca’s ex- chairman, she was taught the ropes in real estate from a young age where she was brought to construction sites, which helped shape her interest in building design and property investment. It also means that she has experienced the quiet evolution of the industry. “We have seen more women participation and leading an important role in this industry,” she says, citing Minister of Housing and Local Government Zuraida Kamaruddin as the paragon.
On an internal level, Jojo is helping PDG to be more conducive to women by implementing flexible work hours for young women and working mothers. This is on top of the daily organic lunch served in the office to consciously promote a healthy eating habit. Being a millennial, she is attuned to the needs of the young generation of homebuyers. “We are the first developer in Malaysia to sign up the new broadband Internet access with Allo Technology for our residential and industrial projects. We are also promoting green technology such as solar renewable energy for a sustainable environment,” she says. Ensuring PDG will continue to build homes with innovative design while meeting evolving needs, she hopes the group can contribute in making Malacca one of the world’s most liveable cities.
