Syed Haizam Jamalullail

Despite all the preparation to become a lawyer, it only took one chance encounter to steer Syed Haizam Jamalullail towards a new course of life. “I was pursuing my bar qualifications when an internship at F&C Investments in London was offered to me during the 2007 Peking to Paris Vintage Car Rally.” Afterwards, he continued his term as an analyst before returning to Malaysia in 2011 to start up Tuas Capital Partners, a venture capital and private equity firm. Although his work frequently requires him to travel abroad, Haizam always allocates some of his time to serve in the Yayasan Raja Muda Selangor and Selangor Youth Community. “Both organisations aim to help marginalised youths achieve their potentials while engaging them in exciting activities and programmes. It is of course extremely difficult to juggle the commitments I have, but to me, they are the future of Malaysia. Being involved in such a nation-building cause is beyond rewarding.” As for someone who chose a rather windy road to be where he is today, Haizam believes one should approach life with a “big” picture in mind but also know when to break things down into smaller and more manageable pieces. “A brief summary would be that I know where I want to be by the time I am 40 and it is up to me through hard work to pave the right road to get to the final destination.”
