Mark Choo

Tribe, Cirque

Mark Choo has always been in the business of making people feel good. From healthcare to boutique gyms, the serial entrepreneur finds joy in innovating businesses. Back in 2015, Mark launched Teleme, an online platform that serves to provide the community with convenient and affordable access to healthcare. In 2017, at the cusp of the rise of boutique fitness studios, Mark set out to introduce Tribe, a boxing studio that offers a focused workout regime. “Both businesses actually complement each other, to be healthy nowadays is not just about eating

right or exercising until you drop, it’s about taking on a more holistic approach,” says Mark who is now venturing into his second fitness studio at Verve Mont Kiara just 10 months after the birth of Tribe.

Inspired by the circus, the fitness studio aptly named Cirque is a vast departure from Tribe as Mark calls this his most daring brand to date. “My team and I would like to bring a workout place that doesn’t just deliver a great workout but also a place where moments can be created. The name Cirque became increasingly attractive as we realise more resemblance between a group social circuit workout and the circus, where teamwork is valued and people are constantly entertained by multiple acts throughout the performance.”

The increasingly-saturated fitness industry also poses a challenge to Mark who acknowledges that it all comes down to the details such as taking the initiative to hear customers out to building trust in the brand. As for his advice to aspiring entrepreneurs, Mark says, “Keep being a student of life.”
